The HCS music program is dedicated to making music a meaningful part of students' everyday life, whether they are beginners or experienced musicians. Students who participate in musical ensembles become part of a tight-knit community where they can hone their craft and be challenged at their own level. Vocal and instrumental ensembles perform twice a year at the Christmas and Spring concerts, in addition to local events.

Elementary School

Students in fourth and fifth grade have musical ensembles once each cycle. These are hands-on, interactive classes that incorporate rhythmical instruments, movement, and singing.

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
Students learn how to hold a steady beat, develop their singing voices, and practice rhythm reading and dictation.

3rd Grade - 5th Grade
Students first encounter orchestra instruments and jazz music. They also practice composing their own music and reading/writing notes on the treble clef.

Middle School

Beginning in middle school, students can participate in vocal and musical ensembles. All students also take a General Music course as part of their afternoon specials. They learn the simple elements of music theory and explore modern genres of music (rock, pop, etc.).

High School

Through the High School music courses, students will explore various genres of music and develop proper musical technique. Students with a special interest in music have several opportunities to participate in advanced musical ensembles.
